and see that within that list of msgs. there is one from Thomas in 2004 with a speech.apt attachment that you can download:
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18807&p=64515&hili ... ion#p64515
and the comment that "you can use DirectSR (Speech Recognition) and DirectSS (Speech Synthesis) from Microsoft."
Problem is that I opened that and cannot find either of these APLs on my PC -- so my guess is that these might have been available in 2004 from MS Vista O/S, perhaps?:
File Include: Microsoft Direct Speech Synthesis.apl
File Include: Microsoft Direct Speech Recognition.apl
The TD menu Tools/ActiveX Explorer... does not display any such MS type libs. However, in a google search for 'speech recognition software' I see many links. And that .NET has this capability now. Good luck and let us know what you find.

So I continued implementation and have now a working sample using Microsoft Speech API (Client), called SAPI.
It shows how to implement
- Text to Speech
- Speech To Text
(Speech is only supported for a limited set of languages).
To get more info on the speech API:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx
The sample has 2 versions. One for TD2.1 up to TD 6.3, and a version for TD 7.0 and up.
It can be downloaded from here:

If you would like to know which commands you can speak while dictating or for other system wide actions:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... n-commands
To show how to use the sample, a small video is created. Watch it on TD WIki YouTube Channel:
Or play it here:
