Report from Report Builder export to csv, xls

Post by peter4711 » 26 Sep 2017, 09:49

First hello
to the community and thank you Dave for doing all of this!

One question:
Sometimes customers needs to export the data from the TD Report Builder e.g. in xls or csv format.
Is there a solutions to get the export done native with the report builder or is sqlwindows programming the only way?
Thanks and Regards!
Peter

Well, a search for "csv printer driver" on google yielded a couple results, Peter. I checked my Win v8.1 install and didn't find the "generic text only printer" driver I could install, but what I did find that was already installed was a: "Microsoft XPS Document Writer"

which can print out an OXPS or XPS document that matches a Report Builder Preview mode printout I tested with. It printed out a report to disk that looked the same as my RP QRP report in preview mode.

When I searched for generic printer info. I get this search list: https://www.google.com/search?q=generic ... 8&oe=utf-8
with info. about the generic printer. Searching there If find a PDF document on the Zebra site, shown in the search list entitled: UsingGenericPrinterDriverWindows7_WH.pdf

The generic printer installs on Win 8.1 OK, as I only had to open my Devices and Printers, click Add Printer, the when nothing was listed, click "The printer I want isn't listed." From there, scroll down to Generic in the left list box and "Text Only" as shown in the attached image. Problem is it only prints to a physical printer.

Other option is to print using a PDF driver which I use as lot. I have "CutePDF Writer" installed: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
This works great for me.

So, 2 solutions:
1) use the Win OXPS/OPS driver to print to a physical file
or
2) Use a PDF printer driver. This would be my choice.
