SqlBase 11.5 and Error 9615 (index corrupt)

I have a invoice in a table with invoice nr 0.
The invoice nr is a integer field. This field is also a index.

The index value of this invoice is 616226! The statement: "select * from O
where InvoiceNr = 616226" returns this record.

I have done:
- check Table O; result OK
- Check Index O12; result OK
- Update Statistics on Table O; result STATISTICS UPDATED

If I set the value manually, I get the error:
Error: 09615 IDX IDF Database or object in the database is corrupt (IDX IDF)

Why does the check statements returns OK???

best regards

Somehow I have never had faith in the CHECK statement. At the slightest hint
of anything wrong, my staff have been instructed to immediately do an unload
and load.
