How to work with IDENTIFIED BY EXTERNAL in TD

Post by aleshk » 15 Oct 2013, 16:29

Hi All

SqlBase 11.7 allows external authentication for a connection to a DB.
I have made a test mapping in SqlTalk (GRANT CONNECT TO sqlbase_user_name IDENTIFIED BY EXTERNAL 'windows_user_id')
I have tried to connect to a DB in SqlTalk - it works.

But how to use this technique in TD?
What should I set for SqlUser and SqlPassword (or for sqlUDL) to establish the connection?

Thanks

Need a help!

I have tried 3 different methods - no one works :(

Method1: SqlConnect()
Tried:
Set SqlUser='*'
Set SqlPassword=''
It does not work.

Method2: SqlCreateSession()
Tried:
Set sConnectionStr = "Data Source=MYDB; User ID=*; Password=;"
It does not work.
But if I set "Data Source=MYDB; User ID=myuser; Password=mypassword;" (with a login name which is granded with a password) - this works.

Method3: sqlcnc()
Tried:
Set sConnectionStr = "MYDB/*/"
It does not work.
But if I set "MYDB/myuser/mypassword" (with a login name which is granded with a password) - this works.

How can I make an application where I will be able to login to a database using a login which is 'identified by external'?
Any idea?

Hi Alexander,

The TD6.2 SQLBase client is still 11.6 and won't know anything about the external identification that SB 11.7 uses. Unfortunately, there really isn't any way to use the Identified by external that SQLBase 11.7 allows until this TD client version gets updated to 11.7.

Best regards,

Mike

Hello,

SQLBase 11.7.2 9610
TD 6.2 SP1 Build 39136

Is it possible now to use the external identification of this TD version?

Thanks,

Arunas

Hi,

I don't believe so. TD6.2 still uses the older SQLBase runtime libraries. Until those are updated to 11.7, TD will not know about external identification.

Hello Mike,

I do not understand that.... Installing the 11.7 client libraries is not enought to get new features working ?

In this case what's the aim of having new features we cannot use :shock: ???

And when will we be able to use it ?

TIA
Mirko

Sorry, I just checked. SP2 still uses SQLBase 11.6 SP2.

I believe that 11.7 is scheduled to be included with TD6.3.

Mirko Bonanno What about taking advantage of IDENTIFIED BY EXTERNAL ???
Gupta Technologies Try this: servername=server1;hostname=localhost;port=2155;database=island;user=*;transport=npipe;
Gupta Technologies SqlUser="*" does work as well.
