Newbie - Help/Advice needed.

Problem,

I need to connect and compile an application to an off site SQL express server.
I’m trying to do this using a Win32 build, I’m not so up to speed with DotNet.

My understanding is that I supply a Connection string constant as follows
Driver=sqlserver,Server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,Database=Database,Uid=User,Pwd=Password

I’ve tried various versions of the connection string. But nothing works.

My question is this possible? And if so what the best way to determine the connection string and then do I have to change the format of my functions.
If not, do you have ideas for an alternative or is DotNet framework the only way
