MS SQL Server 64 bit

to Jeff

in another topic you wrote:
...that 64-bit support is not on the compatibility chart: http://www.guptatechnologies.com/Products/App_Dev/T ... atrix.aspx
for DB's, including MS SS, nor ODBC

my experiance in the market is, that many of our customers now change their old server systems from win 2000/03 to 2008.
and they change the sql server version from 2000/2005 to 2008, too.

same on clients:
from XP to WIN7.
And cause of RAM limitations in a 32bit version they now install a 64-bit version.

in our "old" TD 1.5.1 apps we have to use the 32-bit version of ODBC Driver on client side to connect to the 64-bit SQL Server.
all is working fine

maybe time is comming, that we can use newer TD versions for production.
and a new developpment system should be able to support 64-bit sql-databases.

so question is:
what will be with TD 5.2 concerning the 64-bit support of DB-drivers/routers?
maybe you can give us an official statement if and when unify offers 64-bit drivers for the DBs in the market.

thank you
Michael

Michael,

To do so we would need to create a 64-bit version of Team Developer. That is not yet on the roadmap but certainly might be coming as more and more 64-bit clients are being used.
As far as I know, all 64bit databases like SQL Server and Oracle do also provide 32-bit client drivers that should work just fine with TD on Windows 64-bit.

Best regards,
