SQLServer ODBC Client

Post by wilhelm » 19 Aug 2013, 09:11

Good morging,

this is a quite investigative inquiry concerning the odbc and especially the connection to SQLServer > 7.0 meaning some not outdated server like 2005 or 2008.
We are currently still using TD 4.0 mainly because of compatibility problems with later version and the lack of necessity to switch to unicode in our environment.

Nevertheless we are using SQLServer 2008 in 8.0 compatibility mode. Last week I discovered, that TD is unable to work properly with the database, when using any newer microsoft ODBC client like 9.0, 10.0, or 11.0.
The only ODBC driver that is working is the ancient 6.0 client from Microsoft, which is painfully slow when used over a VPN connection. The newer clients perform at at least twice the speed so it is obvious we would like to upgrade.

So I consulted the newest documentation of TD 6.2 and I see, that the dokumentation still hasn't really changed from 4.0 and Sqlserver 7.0 is the still the newest driver that is mentioned.

Can that really be true?
Please tell me, that there is a TD version, that is able to properly work with an actual client for SQLServer.
Thanks in advance
