Hello,
we have problem to run CTD151 application with Oracle Instant Client.
The versions of Oracle Instant Client we tried are from 10 to the last Oracle 11 - application works with full installation of any of these clients and it does not work with any Instannt Client.
The error message is "21019: Error trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019".
We have set the PATH variable within the batch file, that also starts the application.
The tnsnames file is also added to the Instant Client directory.
The error comes from the first call to SqlConnect function.
Any hint would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Vladimir
Oracle Instant Client Problem
Re: Oracle Instant Client Problem
I use Centura 2.0 PTF3. Late September 2013 I looked into the possibility of using the Windows 32bit Oracle Instant Client. What I found is that the only IC I could make work is version 10.1.0.5 which is(was) the oldest one posted on the Oracle site. I tried IC10_1_0_5, IC10_2_0_3, IC10_2_0_4, IC10_2_0_4Lite, IC10_2_0_5, IC11_1_0_6, IC11_2_0_3, and IC12something. Using SQLTalk, all but 10_1_0_5 failed with either:
Error: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019 OR
Error: Cannot load any communication DLLs, network may not be installed
This is in spite of my doing all sorts of settings for ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN, NLS_LANG as environmental variables or in the registry or adjusting paths or using tnsnames or creating sub folders network\admin or \bin or renaming the full client Oracle folder or renaming the full client Oracle registry entries. I spent many hours searching the web and looking for tricks to make them work. Ultimately I gave up, and I believe Centura 2.0 is incompatible with them even though the corresponding full client version works.
If you can get IC10_1_0_5, give it a try as it worked for me. I have a saved copy, but In the end I elected not to use it.
Best of luck.
Bob

Re: Oracle Instant Client Problem
Hello Bob,
thank you very much for answering.
We have got the same error messages as you in all our tests before your answer.
However, we did not test the most old version available on the Oracle download site (10.1.0.5).
And it works also with CTD1.5.1!
Thank you again! This is a good solution for our case.
Sincerely,
Vladimir

Re: Oracle Instant Client Problem
Glad to hear it works for you.
One caveat is that the early 10.x full client versions of Oracle client have a bug such that you cannot get a connection if you run from a folder or sub-folder whose name contains parenthesis. So if your intended usage is for an app which you install to a Windows 64 bit environment, and you happen to install the app to the Program Files (x86) folder, it will not connect.
This is strictly an Oracle problem which they fixed in the 10.x versions, but I am not sure which one was the first to have the fix, maybe 10.2.0.3. Unfortunately, IC10_1_0_5 seems to inherit this problem. And as you already know, the IC10_2_0_3 ... versions fail to connect for some other reason.
Regards,
Bob
