DevDay 2020

Post by Igor Ivanovic » 02 Nov 2020, 10:51

Hi,

I was expecting that there would be some sort of online DevDay this year, but couldn't find any info about it, so it seems that there will not be one?
Anyone has different info?

For me, the agenda, like the current development, is more than disappointing. The agenda warms up old coffee and highlights migration to current products. Brava still doesn't support eml/html after 4 years. The resizing is only rudimentary (no possibility of specifying percentages for scaling, e.g. for two tables next to each other). PDF/a support was postponed to 7.5 (it is still listed under 7.4 in the official roadmap).

Well, couldn't agree more.
The development of every OT Gupta product is slowing down. In the last Product Roadmap for the TD there even wasn't the 7.5 version, now everything has moved to 7.5 which is about two years from release. I have some enhancement requests regarding debugging and it was immediately scheduled for the 7.5 release, and I needed it two years ago.
And if you look at TDMobile Roadmap, there is no info past version 2.5 due next year. And if you check the enhancements listed, why bother with a version, the items should be already implemented in 2.3 when the native date picker was introduced as that are things every date picker must have.
I could go on and on...

Just my 2C.

Its a bit chicken and egg - always has been . OpenText aren't going to invest lots more R&D until more user sites prove their support of the product/s by buying the proper licenses/GLS . And vice verca .
If more user sites actually payed for the proper GLS, rather than shirking from it, it would demonstrate / prove more of a need for improved R&D investment .
I'm not saying GLS is cheap, or even value for money - but many many sites stick with such old old versions of the products, never buying any GLS .
Maybe if OT made TD a loss leader for a few years, and invested properly in R&D during that time, user sites would be more willing to pay for it , so things would perpetuate. Just a theory .

Until that happens - I'm going to attend every online DevDay they give us !.

OT needs to change attitudes towards consumers - OT needs to aim to expand the number of Gupta TD users.
The impression is that the current situation satisfies them and they do not want to change anything.
Now Gupta is an expensive almost closed religious sect traveling to annihilation.

Did anyone receive info after registration on the devcon which will start today at CET 10:00 ?

The events page does not mention it at all and no link to the event webpage is present.
No idea how to join.

Dave Rabelink
