Report Builder and PDF/A

Post by lfonda » 13 Dec 2018, 16:42

We are using TD 7.1.0 and Report Builder for producing PDF reports.
We have seen that QRP creates PDF Version 1.7ext8 and the producer is PDFTron PDFNet, V6.30272.
We need to convert these PDF to PDF/A, for archiving them without any link with the producing platform ( for example embed fonts ).
Is it possibile to program TD to build directly this version of PDF without using a third party program for conversion ?

Thanks
lfonda

Hallo,

we have exact the same problem. Generate PDF and need PDF/A.
I found no way to write PDF/A directly. So we are looking for a separate tool which converts an existing PDF to PDF/A …

Are here any experience in doing that?

Thanks Andreas

Hi,

I asked something similar here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=62096
in this forum. So it seems the demand of companies would exist, but I don't think OpenText can/would react fast enough.

I think you have to use a extra tool (there are a few out there). So far we didn't begin with the project, so I cannot share any experience with a certain one. Be sure to embed your fonts to fulfill the prerequisites of PDF/A as good as possible, is the only advice I can give from today.

Regards,
Holger

I would recommend for everyone having GLS and having this requirement create a feature request ticket with OpenText support.
At least let them know this feature is needed nativily in TD.

If you created such a ticket, please post the details here so we can refer to it. How greater the demand, how greater the willingness of OpenText to implement it.

We have implemented an API to the German "E-POST" service (Electronic Post) that requires PDF/A 1b conformance. For this reason I have created an enhancement request for Report Builder.

Ticket: 4331837 PDF/A support for Report Builder
Article ID: KB14250841

Answer from support:
This request was not rejected and will be considered in the future once we update our PDFTron License that support this feature.
:)

Thanks Uwe for sharing this list.

Just adding my couple of points here on your Roadmap posting though this is not relevant to this ticket. :-)

I raised a ticket a week back to ask for TD 7.4 plan and got response back like "there is no confirmation on the features and the date."

I am waiting for application deployment features. Windows Store is something good but I am still thinking how best this can be done?

And another important point, they have introduced Windows Resize ( Responsive design) earlier but this does not work properly. They have to add this point as well to make resize works properly.

Thanks
Siva A

Hi Siva A,

I suggest you open a new thread to let us know what resizing issues you've encountered here. We could support you by opening our own support tickets.

I got an info from support that the PDF/a features are now scheduled for 7.5. I don't know any details.
