Team Developer and Microsoft Meta File.

Post by Conrado » 27 May 2009, 13:26

Dear Unify:

The company that I work for uses BlackIce Print2RDP to print Report Builder Reports on Remote Desktop Printers. We recently experimented a problem trying to make it work. Finally we received back from BlackIce and this is what they responded:

BlackIce Technical Support: Our QA department did extensive testing of the problem you have reported and we were able to reproduce the problem using Team Developer Report Builder. Black Ice Print2RDP uses Microsoft Meta File technology for printing data storage and transport. When using Microsoft's metafile functions and routines to pass the meta data to the Print2RDP client side printer, the Microsoft functions behaved incorrectly. The Microsoft functions didn't properly parse a metafile record produced by the Team Developer Report Builder applications. The Team Developer Report Builder generates unused metafile records which does not create problems when this record is sent directly to a printer driver but it will cause problems when the Meta File is played to the printer using MS function calls. We've created a workaround for this problem by playing the unsupported record manually in Print2RDP.

Please let us know if this is something we might expect to be solved on TD 5.2.

Thank You,

Conrado

Hello Conrado,
I'm happy that BlackIce was able to find a workaround to your problem.
Unfortunately, we would need more information before we can comment on something like this. We don't know what kind of report you are sending as well as have ready access to BlackIce printers or the tools that they use; without that we'd only been guessing about what to do with this issue.

I spoke with my Senior Engineer and told me that he gave up the Print2RDP solution he was using. So I guess this is not important anymore.

Thank You anyway... I really apporeciate you have been catching up with my posted messages... now I know someone is reading them... :D enjoy your weekend.

Sincerely,
