TD-20948: TD6.2 Report Margins error

Post by jdineiro » 22 May 2014, 18:55

We have a report Page Size is 8.5 x 11 portrait layout with .4" left and right margins and this prints fine in TD 3.1.
We just upgraded to TD6.2 and we are getting a warning message that the Report may extend beyond the printer page margins.

Report was run from win 7 - 32 bit. The printer is an HP LaserJet 4300 PCL 5. We have updated the printer driver - driver name is UNIDRV.DLL.
This must be a GUPTA bug because we used the same PC and printer with TD3.1 without the error.

Any ideas?

We have tried another HP printer and it still gets this warning message. I am out of ideas - Does anybody have any suggestions or know when this will be fixed?

attached are the original 3.1 qrp and the updated 6.2 qrp with margins increased and all the fields moved away from the margins.

Hi:

I was able to reproduce the issue using an HP Deskjet on TD 6.2 SP2, Windows 7 64 bits and I will be logging a defect.

As you've mentioned, it works on TD 3.1

Thanks for the information.

We have a customer who uses a (Oki) matrix printer with also a different page size and margins due to the chain feed strip.
They sometimes have the problem that the report is 2/3rd on one page and 1/3rd on the other (right side of what would normally be on one page).
In Reportbuilder 4.2 they had no problem.

Is this a similar problem that would be solved with the fix of this defect?

Hi:

FYI, RB 3.1 did not check if paper margin settings were out side of printer margin that's why it worked with that version. Now, RB 6.2checks if margin setting are fit to printer margins, and shows this warning like MS Word. You can see similar warning if you set bottom margin of page to 0.15 inches.

Current default margins for new report is Top: 1", Bottom: 1", Left: 1.25", Right: 1.25". But this repro case sets them to Top: 0.5", Bottom: 0.15", Left: 0,3", Right: 0.4". And 0.15" is too narrow as bottom margin, Minimum bottom margin supported by printer is 0.17" or 0.18" for HP printers (At least for LaserJet P1505).

Also, the reason printing reports are good is that the report does not draw anything on the edge of paper. I believe this is correct behavior and if you want to use HP printer, you should change bottom margin to valid value for HP.

The best paper margin settings for this particular report are: Top: 0.5", Bottom: 0.57", Left: 0,3", Right: 0.4".

Closing this defect AS DESIGNED.

Thanks,
Victor Espinal
