The existing Newsgroup Server talkto.guptaworldwide.com will be renamed to archive.guptaworldwide.com and contain the following read-only forums:

Both Newsgroup servers will operate with read/write privileges for a period of two weeks (following the launch of the new server), to allow for closure of threads. If for some reason a thread cannot close, please repost the message in an appropriate new forum.
Please offer feedback on this proposed changed.
Please find attached the Newsgroup Guidelines.

Firstly, Thanks Suren,
Minimum one forum pro operating system ( - meaning that the number of forums
doubles)
One forum pro td version OR one forum for supported versions and one for
deprecrated versions (after all it is The official Gupta forum)
One (1) general dicussion forum - outgoing Information from Gupta only over
www.guptaworldwide.com
Outgoing answers to specific questions over the forum.
Let 3rd Party use their own web pages for their marketing (keep the need for
3rd party tool at a minimum, Gupta)
Keep the docs on the homepage.
A forum pro product (tom, sqlBase etc)
Less is More than Smart
More is Less than Smart (eg. Michael More:-)
os * product * version (or version group)
2 * 4 * 2 = 16 groups (opposed to the original 32 groups)

just my 2 euro-cents:
I would prefer to have not too many newsgroups with similiar threads, 'cause than there are many crosspostings.

Why didn't you crosspost this message?
That's one of the biggest problem with so many forums that one who reads
all/most of them has to read a thread multiple times if it is not
crossposted. So please as few forums as possible. And use crossposts if a
message really has to go to muliple forums.

Simply: I wouldn't like the splitting of the forums/OS at all.
This doesn't really help. (see prerelease forums)

Suren,
just a general thought.
You are promising an easy cross plattform development. Assuming this
most questions concerning the TD would affect all plattforms.
So the main traffic should go into the general groups (forum.td.all_os)
and only the OS specifiy questions should be deviced into other groups
(e.g. forum.td.linux / forum.td.win32).

I like this structure. One suggestion though. I think that connectivity
should not be under forum.sqlbase. I think that it should be just
forum.connectivity, because when you use SQLWindows, TD or what ever tool
and connect to SQL Server or to Oracle, you don't use SQLBase.

I like this structure too but I miss some general forums like
forum.announcements (until now forum.marketing.feedback)
forum.announcements.3rdparty
forum.jobnet
Plus I think the two .installation forums are questionable - if you look
into the existing postings only very few of them are related to
installation. I think we all would be better off keeping this into the
normal product forum or the platform specific product forum (probably this
is the best place for installation issues as most likely they are very
platform dependent).
And it might make sense to split the forum.td.web into
forum.td.web.extensions and forum.td.web.aspnet to give those TD users a
dedicated forum which are combining the power of TD with the power of
ASP.NET.
Just my 2 cents.

hello again,
i only want to show the structure in general. the suggested structure from
suren is
product(specific),
product(specific),
...
the problem of this structure is, where do i post my question when i have a
general question, or when i don´t know exactly wich forum is the right one.
we all know what will happen.
So i prefer this structure
product(general)
product(general).specific1
product(general).specific2
...
...
the forumlist i posted 28-Jan is not complete, so Martins and Jarmo
additions are right.

Hi,
Please let me know if you encountered the following problem or know how to get around it.
We have an application that uses OLEDB to connect to a Sybase Database and it executes some stored procedures with SQLPrepareSP and SQLExecute functions.
The procedures may excute successfully once or twice then crash with a memory error "The instruction 0x77.... referenced memory at 0xfff.... The memory could not be read"
Thanks.

We're using Gupta 3.1.0 Build 13546. I think that's before any PTF.
PTF1 is build 13581
Please plzzzz tell me which version and PTF it was fixed :)
Thanks.

Hi Kriss,
Actually, we applied PTF3 which is the latest and it didn't fix the problem.
Let me know what you think.
