Mike V.,an SQLBASE question

Mike ,

I have just one question and its about SQLBASE.
I think you are the person to answer this.

How serious is Centura about SQLBASE?. Meaning is SQLBASE
moving towards smaller and smaller (like smart cards and all the stuff)
or bigger and bigger .

I like (or used to , when i worked on it) SQLBASE
because it was 0 admin and very easy to use.

I am interested in bigger and bigger and not in smart cards and embedding
SQLBASE in wrist watches or palm tops. (just joking: IBM is actually working
in this )

We are starting a project (sometime in August) and we would consider
recommend SQLBASE to our clients. Moderately complex with around
50 tables and 20 -25 users.

Also one more specific info i want (if it is not confidential to centura)
1. How many companies are using SQLBASE worldwide. (7.5 version +)
2. What is the maximum size of SQLBASE DB that centura knows of
3. Is row level locking being considered some time in the future?
4. Max users that Centura knows of

As an appetizer have a look at their product roadmap for
Sqlbase 8.0 at www.centurasoft.com/products/roadmap.asp

Joe,

Extremely serious! It is definitely moving into the bigger and bigger
rather than smaller and smaller. For a project your size (50 tables, 25
users), SQLBase is *perfect*!

1. Sorry, I don't know the number, but it's in the thousands +.
2. I can't speak for all of Centura, but I have one customer that has an
18gb unpartitioned database running quite happily.
3. I don't believe so. This would be a very fundamental change.
4. Again, I can't speak for all of Centura but I have personally seen 120+
concurrent users on one SQLBase server.

Hope this helps.

"3. Is row level locking being considered some time in the future?"

As you probably know, you can effectively simulate this by working with the
percent free option.

If this is the only administration that you have to do, it is FAR, FAR easier
than say Oracle......

All the best,

Bud

Arunas,

See the product roadmap at www.centurasoft.com/products/roadmap.asp. Other
than what's there I can't comment on one way or the other.
