GTD 3.1 Compile Time

Hi!

There is a huge difference in compile time of GTD 3.1 compared to CTD 1.5.1.
Even the second run (restart of application after run) doesn't start for
quite a while.
CTD1.5.1 compiles eight times faster....

I wish it would compile as fast as CTD 1.5.1

Hi Abbas,

I did not find any compile time difference between 2.1 and 3.1. I
actually looked to see if any difference was visible. We have 233000
lines of SAL Code in one application.

Gupta people posted a message stating that they were going to speed up
compile times the next version of GTD and they are working on it.

Best Wishes

You got 233.000 lines of SAL Code? Cool!

What is the approx. time that it takes you for compiling that source? I'm
just curious...

gerhard.

Hi Karthik!

I never worked with CTD 2.1. I had a test installation once, and compile
time was with CTD 2.1 much slower than with CTD 1.5.1. I think it's
decreased since CTD1.5.1.

There was a huge performance drop between 1.5.1 and 2.0. 2.1 thru 3.1
recovered most of the performance drop -- as long as you have enough
horsepower on your PC. If you're still running a Pentium II 300Mz PC with
64Mb of memory you're not going to be happy.

THe EXE file is around 21 MB. We have several executables like this.
Its an in house ERP application of a big multinational. Our company is a
customer of GTD 3.1 and SQLBase 8.5. But we use Oracle in the server and
SQLBase on laptops.

Dynalibs are messed up. You cant debug in them. There are a lot of other
problems - weird ones. Dont remember what , but i was part of a team had
tested this long ago. You can also make a search in this forum for
dynalib problems.

3.1 was more snappy than 2.1 though. There was a performance increase of
around 20% in several cases. They did a good job there.

As for 2000, they slowed down 2000 3 times and advertised 2.1 as being 3
times faster.

I think that is true with any versions of CTD/GTD that it is slow in win
2000 if the exes are run from network. Atleast that is what I have noticed.
Don't know if that is an MS issue.
