Enhancing Search screen a must

I had to search my app for a string called "UM" or unit of measure. What a
nightmare it is. It goes all over the place.
It highlihts things like "Number".

Notepad provides more functionality than a 4500 dollar IDE tool!. If you
want a tool to compete decently with VB,
enhancing this is a must. Maybe in one of the PTF's for 3.1. Why do you need
to highlight "Date/Time" when i am searching for "Da".
An options box is a must.

In 3.1 (since beta is closed) , please add atleast "Match whole word only".
Further enhancements can be done later on if desired
Hopefully this is not is more than a few lines of code/documentation in the
Centrura source code?. Also provide an option to skip the parameter
entries like "Date/Time" or "Number". Please also look at Ivars post.

I am sorry for not telling this during the beta. Never had the time
because of pressing work.

Regards
Karthik

As an rejoinder, i do want to point out that Centura folks took time to
address issues in the beta and were very helpful.
I did not want the previous post to be too harsh >.
But i spent a heck lot of time on something that should have been a snap
when i had guys on my back.

Thanks all,
Karthik

Not to say that Gupta shouldn't enhance the search/replace functionality (I
agree with you that this is a must have feature for the next release) but:

I would try using a powerful texteditor (e.g. UltraEdit) for what you
described. Well maybe its easy for us only because we save everything in
text mode anyway but just wanted to point out that option as a "workaround"
until the built in search/replace dialog will hopefully be enhanced.

As already posted, should have the option to skip search in commented lines
of code.

I agree, of coarse, that "Match whole word" is a must. But as it is TD does
not know what a whole word is, at least not when you doubleclick in what you
think is a word. Consider the following:

Set nCount=nCount+1

If you doubleclick on nCount to the left of the equals sign you get
highlighted what you expect: nCount. However, double clicking on nCount on
the right sode you get nCount+1. Unless this is fixed as well a search for
whole words might be even more hazardous than today since you will
inevitable believe you have found all.

Had not noticed that. Its surprising.

The Visual Basic Editor has a very smart solution to this. When you type
nCount=nCount+1,
it automatically changes to
nCount = nCount + 1

This leads to better code clarity.

No argument about readability. But the editor should not rely on certain
typing styles. E.g. Delphi has no problems with "missing" spaces.

Other "surprises" if you use Ctrl-Arrow to jump lft/right to next word. It
does not find elements of of a fully qualified reference, e.g.

Call hWndForm.cl_frmBase.cfInitialize()

You can not jump to e.g. cl_frmBase using this find word technique. You
would not expect people to to intriduce spaces in this case, would you???

IMho it is just badly implemented, 'cause there IS the logic to select a
'word',
and ONLY a word:

make a double click anywhere in the word (ie. cl_frmBase) and just this part
is selected ...

Very inconsistent behaviour :-(
