Hello Jim,

i cannot believe, that you do not know what a "regulare expression" is in
UNIX.
So i muts be a little more exact. I think of feature, that works like this:
- Open Find-Dialog
- type "Jose% M_ller"
- launch search
The builder then should find all combinations of characters similar as i
used it in a WHERE-clause of SqlSelect
e.g. it should find :
Josef Müller
Joseph Miller
Jose Meller
Josefine Muller
but nothing with "Mueller" where there are two characters between the "M"
and the "l"

Is this possible in CTD?

You cannot compare VI editor with any other in the world. No editor can
come even 30% near the of power of VI.

I have worked in Unix for many years. I was an admin, MF-COBOL programmer,
written many C programs in Unix & UnixWare. All 7 years back. But windows
based editors are more user friendly and any one can learn most of them very
easily.

But the point is, this is a forum in which we tried to help each other and
get help from each other. We do not have to know everything to answer your
questions, but we still - with all good intentions - try to help.

To my siblings in the thread ;)

Don't be too harsh on Sepp.

he's german and in german, 'Ich kanns nicht glauben' - 'I cannot believe'
often is used to express astonishment rather than disbelieve, and seldom it
is meant offensive.
I read his post as: he thought the term regular expression would suffice, he
learned it didnt, he expressed his wishes more clearly.

I learned all on these forums (fora?) try to be kind to each other.

I second that.
Searching for anything in TD is a pain now.

I would also like to have:
"Match Whole Word Only" On/Off
"Find All" On/Off
"Search Up/Down"
"Regular Expressions" On/Off
"Search In Include Files" On/Off
"Search In Comments" On/Off

Hello Jim,

do you feel offended by my words? If so, please accept my honest aplogy.
I am very appalled about all the reactions to my "I cannot believe...".
Please look into J Niederberger's contribution. He explains exactly, what i
wanted to express.
My failure is, that I am not a nativespeaking Englishman, but I am a
Bavarian.
My words may seem to rough, but i do never want to offend anyone.
I do not understand, why Mahesh thinks, that i wanted to offend you.

kind regards

Sepp

I'm not easily offended or intimidated. I was a bit taken back & did think
at first the remark was rude. Jurg's explanation was very helpful. Many
times language and cultural differences can make innocent statements seem to
be something very different than intended.

No apology necessary.

Are you going to Strasburg next month?

Sepp,

In anyways, if I hurt your feelings, my apologies. Like Jim, I too thought
it was rude at first, but now I understand.

Hello Jim,

oh, i cannot tell you, how relieved i am to hear that now. Thank you for
your answer.

No, i do not think, that i will go to Strasburg.
Though i twould be a good opportunity to encrease my knowledge and skills,
all that would be too expensive for me to pay it privately.
I will be happy, if i can visit the Systems03 next week here in Munich.
