M!Table survey: DLL naming conventions

Hi folks,

some user asked me to change the naming conventions for M!Table DLLs so that
the TD version is appended to the DLL name, e.g. mtbl31.dll or
mtblprnt31.dll.

What do you think about it?
Your feedback would be very helpful for me to decide on this issue.

Thanks in advance
Michael

Good idea. I had some trouble while developping in parallel TD2.1 and
TD2005.1 because of the unique name of the dll.

Hi,

I'd agree with that, too. For example having a 3.0 and a 3.1 TD on one PC at
the same time would be a bit easier, then; But we'd need one DLL even for
each "subversion" of TD then (mtbl30.dll and mtbl31.dll).

gerhard.

I see that everyone thinks it's a good idea, but what's the point of it?
We have to change the references in our app when we upgrade.
If you put by nistake other versions you'll have an error so it's easy to
correct it.
Just my 2 cents!

You only have to change the corresponding mtbl.apl and mimg.apl-libraries
which automatically will point to the correct version of the dlls.

Yes, but what's the benefit of changing it?

Hi Tony,

now there is only one set of DLL's for multiple TD versions, e.g. M!Table
for TD 3x is for TD 3.0 and TD 3.1. If you have both TD versions installed
you may get the problem that M!Table loads the wrong cdllixx.dll, because
M!Table tries to load cdlli31.dll first, and after that - if it couldn't
load it - cdlli30.dll.
There shouldn't be any problems when all files ( Application and M!Table )
reside in the appropriate TD directory, but when the files are in a
different folder you may get the problem described above, depending on the
path order of the TD versions.

Michael

And if you only have one directory for shared dlls, you cannot put both
versions of M!Table in in, because of the same name. I do not have the
shared dlls in each application directory, but once in the network.
