New version of BuildTool available

A new version of BuildTool for TD 3.1/TD 2005 is available here:

http://www.cschubert.net/BuildTool/

Problems with TD 3.1 PTF4 and TD 2005 PTF1 have been fixed.

BuildTool hooks into TD's Project/Build menu, provides a unique build number
for every build and keeps track of date/time, machine name and user name.
This information can be stored in the outline, in external files or in a
database and can be printed.

BuildTool is free of charge.

For general information about BuildTool go here:

Hallo Christian,

installiert).

LG, Andreas.

Hi Christian

thanks for making BuildTool available fot 3.1-PTf4

one Question - is there a way to read the buildinfos stored in the Outline
from a compiled (EXE /APD) programm ?
perhaps there is a CDK-Funktion to do it ?

Thanks in advance

Francois

Francois,

yes, there is a way. Build information must be stored in an outline
resource. Switch on "append build info to version log file", open the log
file settings, switch on "store log file in outline resource" and enter a
name for the resource. When doing a build BuildTool creates a bitmap
resource containing the entries of the log file. Don't worry about the
bitmap resource being used. Go here

http://www.cschubert.net/html/foreignresources.html

and have a look at "ForeignResources". It's a way to extract SAL resources
from executables.
IIRC there's no way to extract comments (like BTools outline build info)
from executables. I think, they are stripped during compilation.

Hi Chistian

thank you very much - this is good to retrieve Buildinfo when executing the
Programm !

for shur i have implemented it now good idea - but what i'm asking for is
if it's possible to inspect a Gupta EXE / APD with from a Gupta Programm .

I distribute my Prog-Updates automaticly and for that i need a
version-controling .
so my question is if there are SDK -funktions for inspekting your
versioninfos

Regards

Francois,

I intended to write the build number into the file version resource (there's
a SDK function to read this info). CDK offers a function to do this.
Unfortunately this function never worked as intended and crashed BuildTool.
I could give it another try with the new PTFs but I'm sceptical... :-)

Stay tuned.
