OLE DB Connection to Gupta SQLBase 9.0.1

I'm a complete rookie in the Gupta area, but am forced to use this DBMS
for a new client of ours now. I need to create a view in their Gupta
database so that our (SQL Server based) application can periodically
poll updates in their financial application.

I may have many more questions, however I can't even connect to the
ISLAND database to get things going in the first place. I createed an
UDL, selected the Gupta SQLBase OLE DB provider, entered "ISLAND" as
the datasource (also tried the name of my Gupta server), "SYSADM" as
the user and the SYSADM's password in the password field. If I click
the "test concection" button I get the error "Test connection failed
because of an error initializing the provider. 0x80040e4d".

I can connect with SQL Talk for Windows without any problem using the
same username and password and execute queries in the ISLAND database.

My system is Windows XP Pro SP2 (windows firewall is OFF) and the
SQLBase Server is version 9.0.1, build 13765. However, somo collegues
of min have tried the same on a Windows 2000 machine with the same
results.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Hi Hans-Dieter

Sorry for the late reply; have been doing some other things in the
meantime...

That link doesn't help, no. Neither the ODBC nor the OLE DB drivers
will connect to the GUPTA server. It doesn't even matter if the GUPTA
service is running or not; the error remains the same, so it looks like
the driver just can't connect with the server. I've executed a standard
install of the GUPTA environment and the ODBC connection that's now in
my list of ODBC connections as well as the OLE DB driver that's now in
the list of OLE DB drivers on my system came with that installation, so
it seems rather weird.....
