ODBC Driver for SQL Server 11 and NVARCHAR(MAX)

I use the ODBC Driver for SQL Server 11, to access a database in SQL Server 2014. Now, when I read a data field with the type NVARCHAR (MAX), this is always empty. A datafield of type NVARCHAR (100) works.
With the SQL Server Native Client 11.0 I have no problems with reading NVARCHAR (MAX) fields. But I do not want to use this driver, because he is no longer updated.

What can I do?
